Overview
PHILIPPINE
KAGWANG BOXING CLUB is born in a poverty stricken community which primarily aimed to help the neighborhood in and out
of school youth escape from the harsh reality of life and drag them out of evil Influence such as the danger of getting into
drug addiction, alcohol and other common vice. We introduced them into the sport of Boxing as a divertive measure from those
bad influences and eventually prepare them Physically, Mentally and Emotionally against any type of ring opponent as
well as in their real life struggles.
Nowadays,
we all know that BOXING became very popular with the success story of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao with
his rags-to-riches fame that catapulted the sport to high intensity level. From the uncommon kind of sport,
it rose to one of the top three passions for the Filipino people next to billiards and invading the household weekend television
primetime. From the 50’s to the 70’s boxing was in the mainstream of Philippine television specially
at the time of Mohammad Ali where the U. S. based heavyweight icon storms the pacific via the “Trillia in Manila”
at the famed Araneta Coliseum. From then, homegrown talents rise to the occassion with the likes of the then undisputed World
Lightweight Champion Gabriel “flash” Elorde.
It
was in the early 80’s when boxing sailed its stormy days while Basketball rises to its own heights via the U. S.
National Basketball Association. Then the young Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)followed and eventually became
the newest passion of the nation.
Manny
Pacquiao the hero of the sport of Boxing and once called by Boxing enthusiast Ricah Trinidad as “Pacific Storm”
brings back its old Glory and single handedly carried the then fading sport to where it is now. Boxing in the Philippines stands to third place just behind
Basketball and Billiards (First and second respectively) when it comes to popularity as a sport. And in fact, Manny is undeniably
the Richest athlete of the land and considered as the "Peoples Champion". After he conquered the Hall of fame candidate Marco
Antonio Barrera, his feat has produced followers from other local talents such as Rey “boom boom” Bautista, Z
“the dream” Gorres and now the come backing former two time World Champion Gerry Peņalosa.
Thus, PHILIPPINE KAGWANG BOXING CLUB (PHILKAG) INC. was born
"but" unlike any other entity in the sport it is
designed to promote grassroots talent right from the deepest bottoms of
our countryside. Our main objective is to produce "the next"
Manny Pacquiao not just one but as many as we can. Although there can only
be one of his kind, to follow his path is one Great
aspect an athlete and a person should have.
Like a tree, we will make stable foundation to stand
through any storm that might strike him anytime. From its rooster of talents,
we make sure their utmost skill and ability to sustain from any type of
opponent. Keeping them well motivated by encouraging them to live in high
spirit, enthusiasm and determination to definitely reach the top at
all cost.
We focus on the most basic knowledge of the sport
and serious training regimen to physically achieve our goals. And because we
acknowledge their fate, we make sure that only our best fighter can climb the
ring.
These factors will assert our Goal of
strengthening the foundation of the sport itself and will serve as a
‘shoulder to Lean on’ for our youth in time of struggles. Thus,
helping our new Hero (Manny Pacquiao) from carrying the sport we all love
right at its own place in our Nation and in our hearts.
