By: Alexander C. Redoña
Founding President
The bright sunny weather
greeted the NCR PALARO 2007 as it opens today February 19, 2007 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex with Malabon and Navotas
hosting this year meet.
Delegates from participating
schools all over the National Capital Region gathered for this yearly event consisting of different Divisions from the Department
of Education-National Capital Region (DECS-NCR).
The hot sunny weather
was no match for the Boxing Event as participating boxers from different Division of City Schools slug it out showing firepower
as they trade punches with each other during their respective ring assignments.
Although it was only on
his first day for the five (5) day meet, (Feb. 19-24) this writer already saw promising pugilist from the cities of Manila,
Mandaluyong and Parañaque.
This event only shows
that Boxing has really captured lots of attention and followings from the grass-roots level as the DECS already entered the
Sport on its curriculum. And hopefully, this will be a great start for the continued support for the Sport whom we’ve
once treat as very dangerous and incomparable to other contact sport such as martial arts.
Today, Boxing has reached
to popularity as a Sport which can level to martial arts and finally gained recognition as a kind of discipline
where risk can be manage as long as it will be carefully studied and understood.
Thanks to Manny Pacquiao
whom we not only hailed as an Icon but duly regarded as a National hero and Inspiration because of his accomplishments
for being one of the Great Boxer of our time. Through his rags-to-reaches fame, more athletes get inspired and followed his path to
emerge on level of their own athletic prowess.
With the rise of the new
breed of stars such as the likes of Rey “Boom-boom” Bautista and Z “the dream” Gorres in the PRO Boxing
and the Qatar Gold Medalist Joan Tipon and Violito Payla in the Amateur only show that the Sport has already gained a special
place on the hearts and minds of his disciples.
More: Qatar Asian Games Gold Medalist Joan Tipon and other rising stars in the Amateur Boxing had been introduced
by ABAP Secretary General Roger Fortaleza for their presence during the middle
of matches in recognition for their feat.
